Getting an education is the right of every human being. The major reason why there is the problem of illiteracy in a number of developing countries is that there is no proper system of providing education to the masses. As compared to the developing countries, the developed countries have a very good system of formal education which starts from teaching the children of the nation, and goes up to teaching the adults. The purpose of a properly established education system is to provide training and education to the children and the young.

Another purpose of the education system is to promote ideals and doctrines, and also knowledge. This is known as social engineering. But this system has negative aspect, which is that the people may be led to abuse the system through politics.

The basic way to acquire education is the primary education. These are the initial few years of getting a structured and formal education. The primary education goes on for six or seven years and starts when the person is around five or six years old. The next step to acquire education is through the secondary education system. This is the educating of people when they are in the period of adolescence. The level of education moves on from primary education for minors to higher education for adults. This type of education can be acquired from universities and vocational schools.

After the primary and secondary education comes the adult education. This is basically the education which goes on throughout life, and comes from class based learning which is formal, and from self directed learning.
